Welding in a New Light with Optrel's Crystal Lens Technology

Dec 30th 2019

Swiss chocolate, Swiss watches, Swiss cars. When it comes to quality and innovative products, Switzerland has contributed much to the world. Now, Optrel’s Crystal 2.0 auto-darkening welding helmet aims to change the way the world welds.

With its Crystal Lens Technology, Optrel is literally shining a new light on welding. Imagine the control that can be achieved by seeing the joining process in true color as it takes place: How the weld pool melts, how the weld seam is created. CLT (shade 2.0 light state) offers such brilliant vision that some have likened it to looking through a window.

With standard helmets, you might see just 5% of visible light and almost no color perception. With the Crystal 2.0, you’ll see all colors brightly visible with 31% light transmittance. Even in dark mode there’s a detailed and high-contrast view of the welding pool with unprecedented clarity. With Optrel’s Autopilot, which automatically detects arc brightness and adjusts shade from 4 to 12, you’ll see clearly before, during, and after the welding process.

Here’s what Weldfabulous customer Brian Rowland said about his experience with Optrel’s Crystal 2.0: “After 20 years of welding, I never knew I was welding blind until I bought this helmet. … I assure you, the very first time you strike an arc you will be completely amazed and wonder how you ever made a clean weld with what ever helmet you had before. I had 5 different helmets over the years. All went straight into the garbage the same day I tried this one.”

If that’s not enough to turn your head, the Crystal 2.0 offers the following additional features:

  • Weight: at a little more than 1 pound (18.7 ounces) it is one of the lightest helmets available
  • Grind Mode: brightest vision in grind mode ever created and switch quickly and easily between weld and grind mode using external controls
  • Sensitivity Adjustment: control lens sensitivity for varying light conditions
  • Twilight: gradually brings the lens back into light state from welding state, reducing eye strain
  • Viewing Area: 4.25” x 2”
  • Patented Excenter: positions helmet on your head with just one twist
  • Comfort Headband: optimized weight balance to protect your neck and back
  • Heat reflecting paint to keep you cool

Optrel’s Crystal 2.0 is available at Weldfabulous as a stand-alone helmet (OPT1006.900) or with a PAPR system (OPT4550.105). Accessories include magnifying lenses, hard hat adapter, and chest, head and neck leathers.

Optrel, founded in 1986, is located in Wattwil, Switzerland. Its North American operations are in East Greenwich, Rhode Island.
